Bengaluru:“As a minority citizen, I never felt insecure during the previous NDA regime under the leadership of former PM Vajpayee, as I feel now. Modi has failed to rein in fringe outfits. State BJP leaders are fomenting communal disharmony in the name of opposing Tipu Jayanti celebrations by the state government,” said senior Congress leader Nafees Fazal on Sunday.
The former minister said that the BJP leaders are indulging in disruptive politics in the state and demanding the resignation of Chief minister over the violence provoked by right wing groups is highly condemnable, she said.
The state government had announced to celebrate Tipu Jayanti almost a year ago but the BJP leaders did not oppose it then or take it up in any responsible forum to prevent right wing groups from taking law into thier hands and disrupting peace across the state. Hence, Tipu Jayanti celebration issue must be put to rest and BJP must behave like a responsible opposition, she added.
Nafees said, “Just as the PM intervened, even if late in the day, to reassure people following the Dadri lynching incident, I urge Modi to rein in the fringe elements as well as BJP leaders,” she said.
