Bengaluru: Newly elected MP of Hassan Lok Sabha constituency, Prajwal Revanna’s announcement that he will resign for the MP post to ensure that his grandfather will get elected for the Lok Sabha to protect the interest of the state is now being questioned from various quarters.
The announcement has sparked a lot of speculations and many feel that Prajwal may have made the move fearing disqualification. Even though the JDS fans are terming Prajwal’s offer as a sacrifice for the cause of the state, the BJP has termed it as a last attempt to avoid disqualification, which will make way for the party MP candidate A Manju as the MP.
Defeated BJP candidate A Manju has waged a legal fight against Prajwal Revanna over false claims he has made in his nomination papers submitted with the returning officer of the Hassan Lok Sabha constituency. The BJP’s argument is that in his affidavit, Prajwal mentioned Rs 26 lakh as loan borrowed from his grandfather, former prime minister H D Deve Gowda. But Gowda’s nomination papers don’t have this detail. Adding to this, Prajwal Revanna didn’t disclose his shares in various MNCs. A Congress leader from the district Devaraj, an advocate also lodged a complaint with the Election Commission in this regard. If these allegations are proved right, Prajwal may get disqualified and A Manju, who is in the second position may be announced as the winner.
BJP leader A Manju has already informed that he is moving to the court. “If the court upholds my argument, Prajwal’s election will become null and void. As I am in second place, I will become the MP. To avoid this, Prajwal is talking about the resignation,” he stated.
Hassan BJP MLA Preetham J Gowda also echoed similar opinion. He challenged Prajwal to resign first and talk later. “The false affidavit case has forced Prajwal to talk about sacrifice,” he alleged.
The JDS is yet to respond to the arguments of the BJP leaders.
