Raichur: In a shocking incident from Raichur district in Karnataka, a woman allegedly attempted to kill her husband by pushing him into the Krishna River while they were taking a selfie on a bridge. The dramatic episode, caught on video and now viral on social media, unfolded at the Kadlur bridge on Saturday.

The man, identified as Tatappa, managed to survive by swimming to a rock in the river and clinging to it. Hearing his cries for help, local villagers rushed to the spot and rescued him using a rope. A video clip shows several young men pulling the rope as Tatappa makes his way back to the shore.

The selfie turns sinister

According to eyewitnesses and local reports, Tatappa’s wife asked him to pose for a selfie on the bridge. As he stood beside her, she allegedly pushed him into the river below. “Why did you jump?” one of the rescuers is heard asking him in the video. “I didn’t jump — my wife pushed me,” Tatappa responded.

The rescue operation drew considerable public attention. As soon as the man reached safety, an argument broke out between the couple on the spot. While Tatappa accused his wife of a deliberate murder attempt, the woman claimed the push was accidental.

Recent marriage, ongoing conflict

The couple reportedly married in April 2025, but have faced increasing marital discord over the past three months. Tatappa told villagers that frequent quarrels were a regular part of their relationship and believes the push was an outcome of the ongoing disputes.

Locals, disturbed by the scene, stepped in to de-escalate the situation. They calmed both parties and contacted their families. Eventually, both were sent back to their homes after counselling.

The incident took place in Kadlur village, located near the Karnataka–Telangana border, along the Krishna River and under the jurisdiction of Raichur district.

Police yet to take action

No formal police complaint had been registered at the time of reporting. However, the video has drawn widespread attention, sparking debates online over the seriousness of the incident and raising concerns about growing instances of domestic conflicts leading to public confrontations.

Authorities are expected to initiate a preliminary inquiry into the incident.
