Ramanagara: The District Health Officer has suspended two doctors for demanding Rs. 6,000 bribes from a  patient on Saturday November 26.

The DHO Dr. Kantharaj Urs said to mediapersons that Dr. Shashikala and Dr. Aishwarya were suspended after a video clip in which both doctors demanded Rs. 6,000 bribe surfaced. He said pregnant woman Roopa was admitted to Bidadi Community Health Centre a week back. After the delivery, the doctors allegedly demanded money from the patient’s husband.

Roopa’s husband has agreed to give Rs. 2,000 to both doctors,  but the doctors insisted that he be paid Rs. 6000 as they have to distribute it to all staff. In the video, it is seen that the husband has been requesting doctors that he is a garment worker and has no money as his salary is not paid. And despite that, the doctors told him to pay the money. The doctors also add as seen in the video that they fixed Rs. 6000 per delivery and it is a must to pay the amount.

DHO Urs told that he has served notices to two doctors seeking an explanation. He said prima facie two were found guilty and hence suspended. A probe will be conducted, he added.

The video has gone viral on social media and people are expressing anger at doctors’ attitude.
