A series of shocking events in BTM Layout, Bengaluru, has left a group of students stranded and fearful following a violent altercation with their building owner and her associates.
The Initial Confrontation
The ordeal began on December 10, when two strangers entered the students’ PG (paying guest) accommodation, claiming to be the building owner and demanding rent. The students refused, explaining they had already paid the rent to the actual PG owner. The strangers reacted violently, abusing the students, pushing one to the ground, and physically assaulting others. Belongings were thrown out, and one student sustained a severe hand injury from being hit with a wooden object.
The actual PG owner, attempting to mediate, was also attacked. The situation escalated further when the alleged building owner arrived, locked the PG from the outside, and physically assaulted the PG owner while verbally abusing the students. The locked property contained students’ personal belongings, including hall tickets and electronic gadgets, leaving them unable to attend exams or interviews.
Further Violence and Escalation
The violence continued on December 12 when the building owner and her associates allegedly brought weapons and goons to attack a nearby PG where the students had temporarily relocated. At 3 AM, they created chaos, shouting, throwing stones, and breaking down the main door. The students, who locked themselves in their rooms, were physically unharmed but left deeply traumatised.
Police Complaints and Inaction
Despite multiple police complaints, the situation remains unresolved. Police visited the location several times but failed to offer a resolution. The students remain stranded, unable to access their belongings, and have taken to social media to appeal for urgent intervention.
Call for Action
This incident has raised serious concerns about tenant safety and the effectiveness of law enforcement in Bengaluru. The students have appealed to the police and public for help, emphasizing the urgency of securing their safety and retrieving their belongings.
Authorities are urged to address the matter promptly to ensure justice and prevent further such incidents in the city.
