In a tragic incident on Saturday morning, two sisters lost their lives in Bengaluru after their two-wheeler was hit by a speeding BBMP (Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike) garbage truck. The accident took place around 11:20 AM when the truck collided with the two-wheeler from behind, causing the women to fall and get run over by the truck’s wheels. The victims, aged 30 and 36, died instantly at the scene.

The truck driver was immediately detained and taken into police custody. Authorities confirmed that a case has been filed under sections related to negligence and rash driving, which resulted in the deaths of the two women.

This incident highlights ongoing safety concerns on Bengaluru’s roads, despite efforts by the city’s traffic police to reduce fatal accidents. Earlier this week, the Bengaluru Traffic Police reported a slight decline in road fatalities for 2024, with a notable reduction in pedestrian deaths. However, the tragic death of these two women serves as a stark reminder of the challenges that still persist.

As of 2024, Bengaluru has reported 4,784 accidents, including 871 fatal incidents, reflecting the need for continued vigilance and traffic safety improvements.
