Bengaluru: BBMP officials are sweating it out every night, filling the potholes in Bengaluru, after District-in-charge Minister Ramalinga Reddy has directed them to do so, by October 5.
After Reddy warned about strict action to be taken in a review meeting, against all the officials, if potholes are seen on major roads, the officials are spending around five hours in the night till the early hours in the morning since Monday.
Sources said that starting this Saturday, Ramalinga Reddy will inspect major roads in the city. On September 26, he and a team of officials will visit South zone, followed by East zone on September 29, Bommanahalli on September 30, Dasarahalli on October 1, Rajarajeshwarinagar on October 3, Byatarayanapura on October 5, Mahadevapura zone on October 6 and West zone on October 7.
Reddy in the meeting, had said that he will send those officials who are on deputation back to their parent departments if they do not check potholes and take disciplinary action against BBMP officials.
An engineer from South zone said, they have identified around 230 potholes on major roads in that jurisdiction. “We have covered around 170 and by the time the minister inspects, South zone will be free from potholes,” he said.
BBMP Executive Engineer (Major roads) Rajesh said they have covered most of the roads and potholes. “Since Monday, especially during night, contractors and officials are out fixing potholes. We are there between 10.30 pm and 3 am,” he added.
