Bengaluru: The Karnataka State Committee of the All India Mahila Samskrutika Sanghatane (AIMSS) staged a protest at Freedom Park on Monday, demanding equal pay for women and stronger measures to end violence against women and children.

Part of nationwide campaign

The demonstration was organised as part of a week-long nationwide campaign by the AIMSS All India Committee against violence on women, pornography and alcoholism. Around 100 women took part in the Bengaluru protest.

Nirmala H. L., Bengaluru Secretary of AIMSS, said similar demonstrations will be organised across Karnataka between September 1 and 7. “In Bengaluru, throughout the week, we are planning various talks, demonstrations and exhibitions,” she added.

Voices from the protest

Speaking at the event, Shobha, State Secretary of AIMSS, highlighted the growing concerns over women’s safety. “There is no security for girls in society today. Cases of female foeticide, child marriage, etc, are on the rise. While governments announce several pro-women schemes, in reality, they are not bothered about women’s safety. The recent increase in crimes against women shows the negligence of governments towards women’s safety,” she said.

Broader concerns on gender equality

AIMSS leaders pointed out that gender pay disparity continues to be a major issue across sectors, even as women form a significant portion of the workforce. They stressed that without equal pay, women remain economically disadvantaged, which further contributes to systemic inequality.

The organisation also drew attention to the social impact of pornography and alcoholism, which they argued are linked to rising violence and exploitation of women and children.

Conclusion

With protests planned across Karnataka throughout the week, AIMSS aims to keep women’s safety, equal pay, and social justice at the centre of public discourse. The campaign, they said, is not only about raising awareness but also about pressuring governments to act decisively to protect women and children.
