Mangaluru: Hitting back at the union government against the ineffective implementation of demonetisation in the country, members of the Communist Party of India (CPI) staged a protest outside the DC Office in the city on Friday, November 25.
In a bid to express their concern for the poor and middle class who were the worst hit, CPI Dakshina Kannada and Udupi Districts Secretary V Vukyan mentioned that it was not the ban on high currency notes but the lack of planning that got them agitated. Taking lead in the protest, Vukyan said, “The central government banned the notes but did not take necessary measures to maintain stock of currency notes. The poor and middle class were affected more than the financially privileged in this matter.”
Speaking about bringing respite to the people from the mayhem, he added, “More currency notes of lesser denominations should be supplied at the earliest to avoid more inconvenience to the people. Withdrawal limits should be increased in this matter so that the people do not have to wait too long to get their own money in hand.”
