Bantwal: The Bantwal police stopped and seized a goods train from transporting sand illegally at B C Road Railway station here on Wednesday, April 13.
The police received information regarding the transportation of sand in a goods train on Wednesday morning at B C Road Railway station.
Police Inspector Nanda Kumar and his team immediately informed the Mining Department officials. The officials then issued notice to the railway station master not to permit the train to leave the station.
After investigation, it was revealed that sand was transported illegally. The goods train was hence seized.
A case was registered at the Bantwal town police station and later it was handed over to the railway police, said Bantwal police circle inspector Belliyappa.
Railway officials speaking to reporters said that the contractors were using goods train to supply sand to Sakleshpara for the railway department work.
But during the raid, it was revealed that they had not acquired permission.
In Dakshina Kannada, transportation of sand to other districts has been banned. Despite the ban, this instance of illegal sand transportation by goods train to other districts has raised eyebrows.
However, Mining Deprtment official Girish Mohan has assured to take action in this regard.
