Mangaluru: The central government sanctioned an amount of Rs 107 crore in the maiden special purpose vehicle (SPV) meeting held in Bengaluru on Tuesday, May 2 towards the development of Mangaluru under the Smart City project.
Mangaluru was among the first 100 cities to be selected for the ambitious Smart City project envisaged by PM Modi and was chosen in the second lot of 20 cities announced by the centre.
The Mangaluru city corporation had submitted a proposal with an outlay of Rs 2000 crore to Union Urban Development Ministry for developing the city under the project. An initial grant of Rs 107 crore has been released by the Centre which will be augmented by a similar amount from the state government.
The SPV meet, presided by Ritesh Kumar Singh, head of the SPV and in-charge secretary of Dakshina Kannada district discussed various aspects including establishing a project management consultant office in Mangaluru city to implement the decision taken in the SPV meetings.
The next SPV meeting is expected to be held in June, 2017.
