In preparation for the upcoming Lok Sabha election in the Udupi-Chikmagalur constituency, stringent measures are being implemented to ensure transparency and prevent illegal activities.
Technological Vigilance
A total of 1,270 polling stations out of 1,842 will be equipped with webcasting facilities to monitor the election process in real-time. Additionally, micro-observers will oversee 355 booths, and videographers will be deployed in 18 centers. This technological surveillance aims to curb illegal activities such as booth capturing, money distribution, and bogus voting.
Security Deployment
Additional forces from the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) and Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP) will be deployed as per the Election Commission of India’s approved deployment plan. Police personnel will be stationed at all polling stations to ensure security.
Training and Preparation
Polling officials have undergone two rounds of training, and arrangements have been made for the convenience of voters at polling booths. Prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the CrPC will be imposed 48 hours before the election to maintain law and order.
Prevention of Illegal Activities
To prevent illegal activities influencing voters, additional flying squad teams (FST), static surveillance teams (SST), police, and excise teams will be deployed 72 hours before the election. Checkposts will be strengthened to deter the illegal transportation of money, liquor, and freebies.
Postal Ballot Facility
Officials from Dakshina Kannada deputed on election duty in Kerala, and vice versa, may exercise their franchise through postal ballot at designated offices until April 24. This facilitates voting for those on election duty in other states.
These measures aim to ensure a free, fair, and transparent electoral process in the Udupi-Chikmagalur Lok Sabha constituency.
