In response to the historic rainfall that wreaked havoc in the UAE, particularly Dubai and Sharjah, a group of Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) has come together to aid those affected by the deluge.

Unprecedented Flooding

On April 16, the UAE witnessed its heaviest rainfall on record, leading to severe flooding in low-lying areas, primarily in Sharjah. The aftermath left many residents stranded and disrupted normal life.

Urgent Relief Initiatives

Hidayath Addoor from the International Kannadigas Federation highlighted the dire situation in Sharjah, with road cleaning efforts expected to take up to a week. He emphasized the urgent need for basic necessities such as food, water, and medicine, especially as health issues like diarrhoea and vomiting among children have emerged.

Swift Action by Kannadigas Helpline Team

The Kannadigas Helpline team swiftly mobilized to provide assistance, collaborating with the Indian Consulate-Dubai. Equipped with kayaks stocked with essential supplies, the team has been actively involved in relief efforts, distributing food, water, and groceries to distressed individuals, including stranded motorists and municipal workers engaged in cleaning operations.

Continued Support

The relief efforts, led by individuals such as Hidayath Addoor, Hanif Palya, Zahir Bykampady, and others from various organizations and groups, including the International Kannadigas Federation and KNRI, will persist until the situation improves. Those in need of assistance can reach out to designated helpline numbers for support.

Community Collaboration

The collaborative efforts of NRIs from different organizations underscore the solidarity and unity within the community during times of crisis. The ongoing relief work aims to alleviate the suffering of those affected by the floods and restore normalcy in the affected areas of the UAE.
