Mangaluru: A 60-year-old woman was robbed and assaulted, late evening on Saturday July 10, by five miscreants at her house at Bondel when she was alone.
The robbery took place at PWD quarters, Bondel, where A Radha – the victim has been staying. A group of five approached Radha with the pretext that their car had met with an accident and they needed water.
However a vigilant Radha, without opening the door, told them to take water that was in a bucket in the compound. Nevertheless they insisted that they needed water to drink. Radha brought them water; they then allegedly pushed open the door and barged inside. They assaulted, tied her up and stifled her.
The five also spent the night in the house and left only in the early morning, taking away a gold chain, a gold ring, three mobile phones and Rs 35,000 cash.
Later Radha managed to untie herself and approached Thimmayya, her colleague who lives in the same neighbourhood and narrated the incident. Thimmayya then informed the police and admitted Radha to hospital. Kavoor police arrived at the spot along with canine squad and fingerprint experts.
Radha’s husband passed away in March this year. She works as a stenographer in the commercial tax department, and stays alone.
