Mangaluru: MLC and Chief Whip in the Legislative Council Ivan D’Souza, addressing a press meet at the Congress Bhavan here on April 24, said that the BJP had released an advertisement in the daily newspaper that reads, “Makkala Athyacyarigalige Gallu, Modi Sarakarada Katina Krama, Siddha Sarakarakke Eegalu Nidde” and lamented that this applies to BJP lawmakers as they are the ones indulging in these kinds of immoral activities. “We will use this as part of our campaign to tell the people that what they say and what they do are not the same”, he added.

Quoting the news report of various incidents of BJP party men accused in rape cases and sexual harassment cases, he said they do not have the moral right to say this as they themselves are the lawbreakers. He also quizzed why the age limit was fixed at 12 for the victims even though the majority age is 18.

“The Siddaramaiah government, immediately after it was formed, constituted a committee to look into the matters of sexual harassment and sexual abuse of children. It’s our government which had utmost concern about women and children and has taken all steps to safeguard them. Commenting on such a government for election benefits is not in good taste,” he added.

Further he said, newspaper reports say that BJP is planning to launch “Namma BJP, Namma Mane” campaign. “BJP is theirs, but ‘mane’ is the voters’. So they can’t call it “Namma BJP, Namma Mane” and if this campaign is launched, it will be a violation of the code of conduct and we will complain to the election commission (EC) as it’s disturbing the fair and free election system. Also, the BJP is promoting ‘No Entry to Congress’ stickers which is cheap behaviour by the BJP,” he said.

He added that during the election campaign they would try to enlighten the voters about the Modi government’s unfulfilled promises and maladministration. Under the “Hellidenu Modiji, Madidenu Modiji” campaign, the following issues will be highlighted:

Jan Dhan Accounts were supposed to get Rs 5,000 each but, now accounts are closed and say that there are no minimum transactions.
No action taken about money in Swiss Bank accounts.
No action taken regarding Dawood who is still absconding.
All people were supposed to get houses, which again has not been fulfilled.
6 crore jobs were supposed to be created but only 4 crore jobs have been created in 4 years.
Note Ban: 125 died but result not achieved.
GST is a total mess, GDP is low.
Petrol and diesel prices, as of today, has reached a record high.

They do not have the the right to ask for votes, he concluded, as they are only false promises. They don’t do anything and they don’t have knowledge of good administration, he added.

Former mayors Harinath Jogi, Sashidar Hegde, Dhananjay Adpangaya, Prithiviraj, Mamatha Ghatti, Ashith Periera and Punith Shetty were present.
