Mangaluru: The Sullia Senior Civil Court Judge Somashekar on Monday October 25 inspected the mud-filled road connecting Bellare to Mudayithota and warned the Bellare Gram Panchayat (GP) authorities of filing case against them. The judges visit followed after a photo in which two children repairing the road went viral on Social Media Monday. It also drew the attention of lakhs of netizens and evoked widespread condemnation for apathy of authorities.
As the classes began on Monday after a gap of one and half years, the two class II students of Mandepu Government Primary School Vallisha Rama and Tanvi were trying to drain the water on road.
When the issue came to the notice of the judge he visited the spot along with the public prosecutor and Bellare Sub-Inspector, and took parents, school teachers and Bellare GP President, panchayat officer and members to task and ordered police to book a case against them for making children work. The parents of the children told that it is a private road belonging to them and hence their children repaired the same.
The GP authorities apologised for the incident and repaired the road, immediately.
