Mangaluru: Sky lamps or Goodudeepa are sold in each and every shop during Diwali,  but the ones at Vivek Traders on VT Road in the city are surely different.

Well,  these are the lamps made by the juveniles who have been lodged in Observation Homes and Vivek Traders decided to sell these lamps to encourage the hands that toiled to make it.

In recent years, sky lamps are being imported from China and it is available at very less price. Hence, those who are engaged in making sky lamps traditionally are unable to withstand the onslaught of the Chinese lamps.

However,  the lamp made by the juveniles are certainly different. The coloured cloth brought from Surat and Hyderabad are used for preparing these sky lamps. Though the cost of the sky lamp is about Rs 300, it would last at least four years, owing to its rich quality, says salesmen of Vivek Traders.

Naresh Shenoy, proprietor of Vivek Traders told newskarnataka.com that they are receiving such sky lamps from Bengaluru which was produced by the juveniles. ” We are just selling it in order to promote domestic production and also to support the good work of juveniles,” he added.
