Mangaluru : Normal life was thrown out of gear in Bantwal and surrounding areas in the wake of a bandh call given by BJP and various right wing organisations today February 25 to oppose the visit of Kerala Chief Minister Pinari Vijayan to Mangaluru to address communal harmony rally.Miscreants set fire to a lorry, owned by a Abubakar, at Okkettur here. Also other untoward incidents were reported form Vittal, Mittur, Okkettur, Kuddupadav, Thumbay, Maripalla, Kadegoli and Kalladaka towns. Miscreants burnt tyres on the main and arterial roads to block the free flow of traffic.
Police cleared the road near Kalladka where many tyres were burnt. Though vehicles were seen moving on the roads, government and private bus services were affected. Shops and establishments in and around the area preferred to down their shutters to evade bandh related incidents.Police detained two people for forcing shop owners keep shops closed in Vittal.
Heavy police has been deployed in communally sensitive areas of B C Road, Vittal, Bantwal, Kalladka and Panemangaluru.
