Mangaluru: Two cows and three calves fell ill after consuming the leaves, out of which one cow died and the remaining four are in a critical condition at Mundoli under Someshwara Gram Panchayat limits.
Kottekar Veterinary Officer Dr. Gajendra Kumar treated these cattles.

The incident took place at a house belonging to one Sanjeev Poojary, a farmer. On the afternoon of March 8, the family had put the black basri variety of greens for bedding for the cattle to sleep. But all the cows fell ill after eating the same. Later in the evening, some of the cows fell in bed, while the rest of the cows behaved in such a way that they hit the legs on the ground. Noticing this, the family members informed the Kottekar Veterinarian over the phone.

Since he was in an emergency meeting with Assistant Commissioner, he sent the assistant to the spot and gave them first aid. A cow died in the wee hours of the morning after consuming the leaves and the poison spread.

The rest of the cows were in a critical condition. As soon as the matter came to light, the villagers gathered in front of the house and expressed their displeasure against the Veterinary doctors. Later, the treatment was initiated under the leadership of Kotekaru Veterinary Officer Dr. Chandrahas. Talapady Veterinary Officer Dr. Rachana also rushed to the spot and treated the cattle in critical condition.
