Mangaluru: State Legislative Assembly Speaker Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri said that government schools as ‘factories’ where children develop creativity.
He was speaking at the valedictory function of “Kannada Shala Makkala Habba”, which was held on Sunday November 20 hosted by the Keshava Smriti Samvardhana Samiti for government school students in classes 5 to 10.
Kageri said that in comparison to English-medium schools, government schools don’t lag behind in terms of providing quality education.
Speaking about the situation in which parents put pressure on their children to get good grades and jobs with good pay, he remarked that this was not a healthy approach. He claimed that this culture will leave parents in old age homes rather than aid in imparting good values to children.
“The goal of education should be to educate students on how to lead a good life and build a nation,” he added.
He also stressed the importance of implementing a trilingual policy that prioritises the mother tongue, the local language, and the country’s official language. “It is feasible to preserve values and culture by respecting all three languages,” he opined.
