Mangaluru: Many times the natural calamities are caused due to the destruction of environment. The responsibility of the destruction must be on the human beings. It is the greed that has resulted in the floods, earthquake, and drought among others. However, State is shocked and stunned by hearing the news of earthquake at Dakshina Kannada and Kodagu District.
On Sunday June 26, both districts witnessed first earthquake and within a gap of two days, one more earthquake hit both the Districts on Tuesday June 28 once again.
Sullia and Border Taluks of Kodagu District are the epicentre of these earthquakes. The rector has recorded earthquake of 2.0 to 4.0 magnitude. The experts predict that in future the earthquake may reach upto 5.0 magnitude.
Environmentalist opined that the destruction of environment is the main reason for the earthquake. Already the Shiradi and Charmadi Ghats are witnessing landslides. Extreme destruction of nature may result in the earthquakes in these region during rainy season.
Speaking to NewsKarnataka Weather Expert Praveen Guled said, “The earthquake has occurred due to the cold resort in the upper layers of the Earth caused by heavy rains in these Districts. And also other reasons for the quake may be the excess usage of borewells and tunnel construction, which infact directly affects the layers that tend to loosen.”
