MIA bomb scare: 15 witnesses identify Adithya Rao as suspect

Mangaluru: A total of 15 witnesses identified Aditya Rao during an identity parade held at the Mangaluru Prison in connection with the Mangaluru International Airport bomb scare in January this year.

The identity parade was first scheduled on February 25, however, it was postponed as Adithya Rao was admitted at the prison ward of district Wenlock Hospital after having contracted Malaria. The identity parade was rescheduled for March 9, after Aditya recovered from the illness.

During the identity parade, held two days ago, 15 witnesses, who had seen Aditya on the day of the incident and on the days before and after the incident, were lined up for the parade and all of them identified him as the person they had seen.

The parade was held in the presence of the Mangaluru Tahasildar and prison officials. After the identity parade, the statements of the witnesses were handed over to the court by the investigating officers, sources informed.

On January 20, prime suspect Aditya Rao allegedly placed a bomb at MIA, and incident that sent shock waves throughout the country. No one was injured in the incident as the bomb was noticed by CISF personnel who immediately alerted the police. The bomb was detonated by a bomb squad at a secure location away from civilians. Adithya Rao, an MBA graduate, surrendered himself before the Bengaluru police a few days later and confessed to the crime.
