Sullia: MLA Angara and members of Nagarika Hitarakshana Vedike Ivarnadu Gram Panchayat on October 9 protested against the “illegal” transfer of gram panchayat development officer.

Addressing the protesters here, the MLA said, “The officer has been transferred due to political pressure. Abrupt transfers of the officers halts developmental activities of a village. Due to the transfer of the officer, the developmental works have slowed down, ” he said holding Congress responsible.

This government does not listen to the plight of common man and no action has been taken against illegal liquor shops and sand mafia, he alleged.

Zilla Panchayath Vice President Kasturi Panja warned of continuing protests until the officer was reinstated.

The protesters also blocked the road and later submitted a memorandum to in-charge CEO in this regard. The protesters set a deadline of three days to reinstate the PDO and decided to end the protest after assurance from the CEO.
