Mangaluru: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Mangaluru has questioned the Mangaluru City Corporations’ (MCC) move in which it has erected a new auto parking facility at the Pumpwell junction (on route to Thokkotu/Ullal). This auto park has come up at the bus stop location for buses heading towards Thokkotu/Ullal. AAP asked the technical expertise of the Mangalore city corporation’s unique solution of providing the auto park at the bus stop.

AAP stated in a press release that there is movement of auto-rickshaws in and out of auto park when the buses are parked at the bus stop, which poses a threat to all. The general public who waits for their buses has to stand on the road as there are no bus shelters. While waiting for their buses, people will have to move inside the auto park. This indeed will create unnecessary issues between the general public and the auto drivers. Buses parked on the road will make it difficult for auto-rickshaws to enter and exit the auto park, causing unnecessary traffic problems for all stakeholders.

AAP has asked MCC for clarity on how this unique design meets the interests of all stakeholders. It has also inquired as to how the safety of all stakeholders, including the general public, auto drivers, and bus operators, is ensured while alighting/boarding buses and auto movement, as well as the position of the general public, auto drivers, and bus operators. “During rains and hot summer, the general public will make use of auto park while waiting for the buses. As Auto owners have the exclusive right of their auto stand, MCC needs to clarify the position of general public/auto drivers/bus operators in hot summer and rainy conditions,” stated the press release.

“MCC to revisit the same and look into the issue from all perspectives and thus to ensure convenience and safety for all,” it added.  AAP has also asked that a copy of the project report be made available on the MCC website so that the general public can get a better understanding of the technical aspects.
