Mangaluru: In a rather shocking incident, Mangaluru City Corporation Mayor Kavitha Sanil had reportedly assaulted a security personnel’s wife, on Thursday night at her apartment.
Kamala, a resident of Bagalkot, reached Pandeshwara women’s police station on Friday evening complaining that she was bashed up by the Mayor.
Kamala is the wife of the security person of Sagar Pulemar Resdiency, Bejai, where Mayor Kavitha Sanil resides with her family. As per Kamala, she takes care of the Sanil’s daughter when she comes down to play during leisure hours. Kamala alleged that on Thursday evening, when the Sanil’s daughter was playing, she was about to venture out of the premises. On being stopped, she lost her calm and returned home to complain to her mother, the Mayor. Sanil allegedly assaulted Kamala after hearing her child’s complaints.
Kamala alleged that she was feeding her toddler, when Sanil pulled her child away and slapped her across the face. Sanil reportedly pushed Kamala’s husband when he came to his wife’s rescue.
With a bent ear stud and a dark black blotch behind her ear, Kamala, who was supported by a group of BJP corporators, came to the police station and narrated the incident.
BJP member Roopa D Bangera said that while the BJP respects the Mayor, it is unbecoming of her to have assaulted a helpless woman.
Kamala and her family came to Mangaluru only a year ago.
A non cognisable offence case has been registered against Mayor Kavitha Sanil in the Pandeshwar women’s police station.
