Mangaluru: In the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, the Karnataka State Wakf Board directed the Deputy Commissioner of the district not to allow community prayers during the month of Ramzan.
Secretary of the Karnataka Wakf Board, in a letter to the DC, said that during Ramzan, mass prayers in any mosque is banned. Devotees can offer prayers inside their own homes. However, namaz, including Jumma namaz, can be offered by Pesh Imams, Mouzzans and masjid staff only. Social distancing, however, should be maintained.
The letter also asked the DC to instruct all the masjid management committees to strictly follow the direction and cooperate with the government in stopping the spread of COVID-19.
