Mangaluru: With business tycoon and BM Farooq being declared as the official candidate of JD(S) for Rajya Sabha, his brother and Mangaluru North MLA Mohiuddin Bava has clarified that he shares no political or business relationship with his brother whatsoever and that as an MLA he has neither favoured his brother nor any other family member.
As per sources, Bava is in eye of storm within the Congress circles after BM Farooq filed candidature as JD(S) candidate for looming biennial Rajya Sabha polls scheduled to be held on June for 57 seats.
It is said that rumours of Bawa trying to vouch for Farooq over Congress’ official candidate Oscar Fernandes are making rounds and following this, the CM has reportedly asked Bava to convince Farooq to withdraw his nomination.
Addressing a news conference on Wednesday, June 1, Bava said, “It was purely JD(S) State President H D Kumaraswamy’s decision to give Farooq the ticket and I had informed the CM well in advance about the possibility of Farooq becoming the official JD(S) candidate.”
Stating that he had never tried to convince anyone to support Farooq, Bava said that he is a sincere congress worker.
He further brushed aside rumours of some Congressmen conspiring to defeat Oscar Fernandes by cross voting for Farooq.
