Mangaluru: Deputy Chief Minister Dr C N Ashwathnarayan, who is also the Minister for Medical Education ruled out any seat blocking by the private medical colleges and claimed that the raid by the Income Tax (IT) department on some of the medical colleges belonging to Congress leaders is not due to alleged medical seat blocking scam, but with regard to their disproportionate and undeclared assets.

Speaking to the mediapersons at the Mangaluru International Airport (MIA) on Friday, October 25 the minister said that the income of such medical colleges was not matching with their source of income, which led the IT officials to raid on their properties. ” Hence, there is no question of seat blocking by any medical colleges,” he added.

Meanwhile, the DCM said that as per conceptual agreement between private medical colleges and government, private medical colleges can fill those merit seats on their own if the government seats are not filled within the due date.

Responding to a statement of minister C C Patil that the government has been spending a huge amount of money in the flood-affected areas despite lack of funds in government treasure, Ashwathnarayan supported his statement. ” As the state has to spend over Rs 40,000 crore towards the flood victims, it is a huge burden on the government indeed. However, the government is committed to respond to the grievances of the flood-victims and also to waive off the loans of farmers,” he said.

BJP would sweep in the by-election

With a rather disappointing performance by the BJP in the crucial Haryana, Maharashtra polls, when asked if the same will hold impact on the Karnataka by-polls, he said that the BJP, in the state is bound to win all the 15 seats.

“Both Congress and JDS will not be able to face our party, despite their many efforts and we are confident of securing victory in all 15 seats,” he said.

Bantwal MLA Rajesh Naik, Mangaluru North MLA Dr Y Bharath Shetty among others were present.
