Mangaluru: The government has started a new method of crop survey by using ‘mobile app’, deploying private residents at every village.
Speaking at a press conference on Monday, October 1, Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil said, “A total of 1250 private residents will be deployed to conduct crop survey in 422 villages in Dakshina Kannada district. These private residents will be from the same village who will visit every house to take the photo of crops. There will be four private residents in a village who will take the photos of the crop, visiting the plots. The government will provide Rs 10 per plot to these private residents. The farmers need to co-operate when they come to their house. Prior to their visit, they would inform the RTC owners about the exact date of their visit and farmers are requested to be present on the same date,” he informed adding that farmers need not pay during their visit.
Informing the intention of the crop survey Senthil said, “This crop survey will help the government to release the compensation amount to a particular farmer if he losses his crop during any natural calamities. The survey also helps the government to find out the figures of crops, which are being grown in a village. Earlier, it was being surveyed by the village accountants (VAs). As it was a burden to VA’s, the new method has been introduced in the state. It is expected that the survey will be completed within a month.”
Additional Deputy Commissioner Kumar was present.
