Mangaluru: Taking into consideration the spiraling diesel prices among others, the city buses will soon follow the footsteps of private express and service buses and will from the coming week increase the bus fares by around ten percent.
The proposal to hike the fares, approximate Rs one for each stage comes shortly after the recent upward revision of ticket rates in private express and service buses in the undivided Dakshina Kannada region.
A meeting in this regard has already been held by the Dakshina Kannada District City Bus Owners Association who have cited that the fare hike has been necessitated due to the rising fuel, tax and maintenance expenses that they need to incur leaving them with no other option other than to increase the fares.
