Mangalore: Mr Ramanath Rai spoke today addressing issues facing his district and department, he stated “politicians and press reporters relationship is just like husband and wife ,if one is at fault other should point out the mistake and rectify,to resolve the comman mans problem and issues we will have to work as one”.
The DK Press association held a felicitation program for Mr Ramath Rai for being appointed as the Minister for Forests and Environment department.
He was welcomed by the senior journalist Harish Rai and the event then went on to be, an one on one interaction with the press.
Mr Rai addresesd regarding his department and said “I have the responsibility to save and protect the environment, with out causing any disturbance towards the development of the region as well as the people”.
He further stated that he will try and apply apt solutions to prevent illegal forest encorchment.
When asked about the Netravathi river divergence issue, he said that” Dr. Paramshivaiia committe has promissed that there will no much harm caused due to this project to the DK District ,as a part of the water will be diverted towards the east through tunnels.But he also expressed concern saying that there is a possibility in the reduction of the water levels in this region.
He continued stating that regarding this issue the previous govt. has all ready approved the project and it has reached till the tendering state, hence as a cabinet minister i am ubable to give any comments on this particular issue.
In association with the Japan govt , the centeral govt has approved the four lane project connecting Mangalore to Hassan, he said.
State govt has also proposed a four lane project connecting Moodabidri to Shimogga.The 220kv Sub Station will be upgraded to 400kv towards the development of the DK district, he said.
