Mangaluru: A writer who has contributed novels, essays, poems and plays leaves his readers in Mangalore and passes away. At least that is what fans of KT Gatti would feel at the moment with the sad demise of the 85 year old who has given so many beautiful words to the readers of our community till date.

Kudlu Thimmappa Gatti was a poet, essayist, short story writer, playwright, novelist and also an educationist.

Born on July 22nd in 1938 in Kodlu, Kerala, the 85 year old spent the early years of his life teaching in a govt high school in Kasargod. Having completed his MA English from Kerala University, he then went to the UK to pursue a diploma from the Trinity college in the same.

He then spent a while serving as a teacher in Ethiopia after which he returned home in 1982.  Perhaps that was enough experience to inspire the teacher to come up with his first novel Shabdagalu. The novel made some impact as a Kannada weekly chose to publish it as a series.

This was enough encouragement for the rest of the novels that flowed from there. While the writer is now no more, he sure has left began a legacy with his works that we can enjoy today.
