Udupi: An elderly woman breathed her last just hours after casting her vote on April 15 in Chadgar Agrahar in Sastana. P. Yashoda Narayan Upadhya, 83, wife of the late village accountant Narayan Upadhya, died due to ailing health conditions on the night of April 15, but the news came to light on Wednesday, April 17.
Sources said that Yashoda had been experiencing mild chest pain since Saturday night, April 13. Despite her deteriorating health, she was adamant about casting her vote from her residence on Monday, April 15. The Election Commission allowed senior citizens and differently abled individuals to vote from their homes.
The family members requested and pressured her to visit the hospital, but the lady was adamant that she would go to the hospital once she cast her vote. She cast her vote at 12.30 pm, and later she was shifted to a private hospital in Koteshwar. She passed away around 9 pm the same night while undergoing treatment.
