Udupi: A couple ended their lives at a lodge in Kundapura and the matter came to light on Sunday evening.
The deceased have been identified as Gurumurthy (48) and Sharada (30), hailing from Shringeri.
It has now come to light that the two left their respective families and came to Hariprasad lodge four days ago. The two were in a relationship and since their spouses had objected to the same, they left their homes and came to Kundapura.
Opposition to the relationship seems to have been the reason behind the two ending their lives. A death note scripted by Sharada says that her husband Ramesh is responsible for her decision to end her life.
The two had checked into the lodge four days ago and when they did not venture out of the room on Sunday, the hotel staff grew suspicious and informed the police. The cops broke open the door of the room and found Sharada dead on the floor, while Gurumurthy’s body was on the bed. It is evident that the two had consumed pesticide mixed with alcohol, as empty bottles of alcohol and pesticide were recovered from the room.
Sharada hails from Nethravalli of Shringeri while Gurumurthy is from neighbouring village Sindhuvalli.
Sharada is survived by her husband and a daughter while Gurumurthy is survived by his wife and daughter. A case has been registered by the police.
