Udupi: In the wake of Omicron scare, and in a bid to control its spread, the District Administration has decided to go in for random testing of staff and students in schools, colleges and hostels in the District.
Speaking to mediapersons on Saturday December 4, Deputy Commissioner M. Kurma Rao said that as ramping up of measures, the District Administration has set a target of testing 5000 samples daily. In the coming week, staff and students of various high schools, colleges as well as staff and owners of hotels, restaurants, malls, shop and establishments, catering service and home delivery establishments, factories, offices, pubs, bar, cinema halls, ans multiplexes will be made to go through random testing. It has also been planned to conduct random testing if people gather in groups at public places, he informed.
Rao said that the committee’s set up to work during Covid second wave will be reactivated. “We are also gathering statistics on the availability of beds and oxygen in various hospitals of the District. Also, we will ensure that all the guidelines from Union and State Government are followed to the hilt.”
