Udupi: Jewellery extortion case, 2 get 7 years RI

Udupi: The Karkala Traffic Court on Friday February 17 awarded seven years rigorous imprisonment to two accused in the jewellery extortion case that took place in Karkala 10 years ago.

The accused have been identified as Madhukar Acharya (36), a resident of Varanga Bandimatha in Karkala and Prashanth Acharya (36) of Kumbhashi in Kundapura. There are a total of six accused in the case and of the remaining four, Shahid Ali and Chandra Acharya have been acquitted for lack of evidence.

The remaining two, Mohan Mogaveera and Sandeep Mogaveera, died during the course of the trial.
