Udupi: A man has been accused of cheating a woman of Rs. 1.65 lakh by promising to marry her. A complaint in this regard was filed at the Padubidri Police Station.

According to a complaint made by Shobha, a resident of Moodu Palimaru, a man named Harish visited their house on May 6 and claimed to be from the Vishwakarma caste. He allegedly made a promise to marry Shobha.

The accused claimed that he had received Rs. 80 lakh for selling his land in Kundapur. To help him obtain the land documents from the bank, he then demanded money from Shobha. She didn’t have the money and therefore Harish convinced his sister Shyamala to offer the gold jewellery in exchange for the assurance that he would refund the money following his land deal.

Harish did not, however, return the money or come back. Following this, Shobha filed a complaint.
