The District Urban Development Cell (DUDC) has resumed its stray dog sterilisation programme to tackle the growing canine population in urban areas. The programme had been temporarily halted due to funding issues but is now back in operation with financial support of Rs 18 lakh allocated for Ranebennur and Byadagi.
Details:
- Organisation Involved: The ASRA Animal Welfare Organisation from Chikkaballapur is tasked with the sterilisation efforts.
- Progress: The organisation has already sterilised 1,080 dogs, with 780 in Ranebennur and 300 in Byadagi.
- Cost: The cost per dog is set at Rs 1,650, including post-operative care. Each dog will be cared for in a designated shelter for four days before being released back to its original location.
Future Plans:
- Upcoming Areas: Haveri and Savanur are next on the list for sterilisation.
- Infrastructure: ASRA will set up a dedicated shed for the sterilisation process to avoid the risks associated with traveling over 45 km.
Community Response: Residents, like Basavaraj Gumatimath from Siddarodha Colony, have welcomed the initiative and stressed the importance of comprehensive coverage to effectively manage the stray dog population and mitigate public safety concerns.
