Bengaluru: Fakira Dingaleshwar Swamiji of Shirahatti Bhavikya Math is likely to make an announcement about his potential political plunge on Monday. The seer, if he gets the go-ahead from devotees and other seers, will be contesting as an independent candidate from the Dharwad Lok Sabha.
The influential leader of the Shirahatti Bhavaikya Math acknowledged on Saturday that he is being approached by various political parties. The Swamiji has said he would announce his decision after the meeting scheduled to be held on Monday (April 8) in Bengaluru.
Sources, however, claim that a meeting between the Swamiji and Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president D.K. Shivakumar took place recently. Speculations are rife that Shivakumar sought the Swamiji’s support for the Congress candidate in the upcoming elections.
Dingaleshwar Swamiji is a vocal critic of the current Dharwad MP, Pralhad Joshi. He has previously organized meetings with seers from various mutts to garner Lingayat support against Joshi. The Swamiji has accused Joshi of arrogance, misuse of power, and acting against the interests of the Lingayat community. He has even gone as far as calling Joshi a conspirator in the removal of B.S. Yediyurappa, a Lingayat leader, from the Chief Minister’s post.
As the elections are fast approaching, Dingaleshwar seer is likely to make an announcement whether he would contest the election or not. The meeting organized at Veerashaiva Lingayat Bhavan on Raman Maharshi Road (Old Ballari Road) will be attended by seers of various maths and devotees. They will deliberate on the potential candidacy of the Swami, and a decision is likely to be made public immediately after the meeting.
