A gruesome murder case bearing resemblance to the Renukaswamy case has emerged from Kalaburagi, where police arrested three individuals for the killing of a man whose body was found in Raichur district earlier this year.

Kalaburagi Police Commissioner Dr. Sharanappa SD revealed that an unidentified body was discovered in the Krishna River near Shaktinagar, Raichur, in March. The Raichur police had initially registered it as an unnatural death.

The breakthrough came when Surekha, a resident of Kalaburagi, lodged a missing person complaint at the Station Bazaar police station, stating that her husband Raghavendra had been missing for over two months. Inspector Shakil Angadi led the investigation, which uncovered that Raghavendra had been in a live-in relationship with a woman named Ashwini, also known as Tanu.

Ashwini had reportedly ended the relationship and began seeing another man, Gururaj. Enraged by her new relationship, Raghavendra allegedly began harassing Ashwini, urging her to reconcile.

Ashwini informed Gururaj about the harassment, prompting him and his friend Lakshmikant to plot Raghavendra’s murder. On March 12, Ashwini lured Raghavendra to a meeting near Super Market in Kalaburagi. Once there, the trio abducted him and took him to a graveyard near Krishna Nagar. There, they brutally assaulted him — including targeting his private parts — resulting in his death.

The accused then transported his body to Raichur and disposed of it in the Krishna River. All three were later tracked down and arrested in Kalaburagi.
