Bidar: Basavakalyan MLA Sharanu Salagara said that for the first time, wrestling festival is being organised at Basava Utsav and it will be held in a grand manner in the coming days.
He was speaking after inaugurating a wrestling festival organised as part of Basava Utsava – 2023 at Thera Ground in Basavakalyan on Sunday March 12. “For the first time in Basava Utsava, wrestling festival, helicopter festival and boating festival have been organiSed and the public should enjoy these. Apart from this, several other festivals have been organiSed.

More than 100 wrestlers from Karnataka and Maharashtra participated in the wrestling festival, including South Asian Games Gold Medallist Umesh Jamadar from Kohinoor Village in Basavakalyan and several National and State-level wrestlers.
The first prize of Rs. 51,000 was bagged by Siddu Belamagi by becoming the winner, while Umesh Jamadar won the prize in the Rs. 11,000 category. Prizes of Rs. 8,000 and Rs. 10,000 were also presented on the occasion.
Some wrestlers kept the crowd eagerly waiting by putting on a draw for several minutes. A few wrestlers caught the attention of the crowd by sniffing off the opponent in a matter of minutes.
Overall, the wrestlers with a variety of attractive physiques brought joy to the wrestling fans.
Basavakalyan Assistant Commissioner Ramesh Kolar, Basavakalyan Tahasildar Shantagowda Biradar, Basavakalyan Taluk Block Education Officer C. J. Hallada and others were present on the occasion.
