Kalaburgi: For the past few days, unconfirmed news has been circulating in the twin cities of Hubballi-Dharwad that the Congress may replace its candidate in the Dharwad Lok Sabha constituency. Dingaleshwar Swamiji, who announced independent candidacy, was rumored to replace the Congress party’s official candidate, Vinod Asooti.

KPCC President and Deputy Chief Minister, DK Shivakumar, put an end to all speculation by stating that the party is not considering replacing the candidate in the Dharwad Lok Sabha constituency, and such a proposal is not under consideration at the moment. He mentioned that although the Swamiji and he were eager at one point, considering the adverse impact on the cadre, the decision is now leaning towards abandonment.

When asked whether Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s opposition was the reason for this, Shivakumar responded that the CM did not show such resistance. Regarding his meeting with former BJP MLA Malikayya Guttedar, Shivakumar refused to reveal more information but mentioned that Guttedar is contemplating returning to the Congress due to perceived injustices by BJP leaders.

Responding to former CM HD Kumaraswamy’s statement about a big change expected in the state within the next year, Shivakumar humorously suggested that the change could involve the breakup of the JD(S) and BJP alliance, or perhaps Kumaraswamy may merge Janata Dal with the BJP.

Shivakumar was in Kalaburgi on Friday to participate in the nomination of Kalaburgi Lok Sabha candidate Radhakrishna Doddamani.
