Chikkamagaluru: The Griha Jyothi Yojana, one of the State Government’s flagship schemes, has been launched from July 1, said Power and District In-Charge Minister K. J. George. He was speaking after inaugurating the new office of the District In-Charge Minister at the Old Tourist Temple here on Monday July 3.
“The free power scheme will be effective today. The electricity bill used in June will come in July, and the amount of the electricity bill used in June will have to be paid,” he said. After that, in August, on an annual average, the amount of electricity allotted to the respective households will be free, he said, adding that if the quantity of electricity exceeds the prescribed unit, then additional usage charges will have to be paid.
Registration for free electricity has been allowed until July 25 while power consumers who have not registered by July 25 will be given another month’s time.
More than 85 lakh applications have already been submitted, and users having electricity connections under the Bhagya Jyoti scheme should also register, he said, adding that officials have been instructed to take steps to ensure that consumers do not face problems in registration.
