Puttur: Nagar Congress president H. Muhammadali on Monday strongly criticized the lack of public outcry and official action in a sensitive rape case where a young Hindu woman was allegedly assaulted under the false promise of marriage and later gave birth to a child.
Addressing a press meet, Muhammadali questioned the collective silence from society, particularly from Hindu leaders and right-wing organizations. “Why is no one treating this case with the seriousness it deserves? If the accused had been a Muslim, there would have been widespread protests. But now, not a single voice is raised,” he said.
He accused those attempting to mediate or downplay the matter of moral failure, declaring that such people “will carry the burden of this injustice.” Muhammadali also questioned the whereabouts of local BJP leaders and activists, particularly Arun Kumar Puttila, who is known for promptly reacting to local incidents but has remained silent in this case.
The Congress leader demanded the immediate arrest of the accused’s father, alleging that the crime occurred in his house and that he should be held accountable. He urged the police to search the premises and investigate whether other such crimes may have been committed there.
He also called for public disclosure of all individuals who attempted to negotiate or cover up the issue. “Justice cannot be selective,” he said.
Congress members Maurice Mascarenhas, Suresh Poojary, Harish Acharya, and Rashid Mara were also present.
