Elephant Menace Resurfaces Near Nellikatte Temple, Road Blocked
Elephant activity has once again disrupted life near the Nellikatte temple in the Bettu Shedikanth area, bordering the Someshwara reserve forest in Nadpalu village, Hebri taluk. A wild elephant uprooted a large tree, blocking the road between Nellikatte and Megadde. Nadpalu gram panchayat president Naveen and local residents worked together to clear the obstruction and restore traffic.
Currently, bus services run only from Hebri to Nellikatte, forcing people to walk five kilometers to Megadde. Though the forest department offers transport for school students, frequent elephant sightings have left the public wary of traveling through the area.
Forest officer Chidanandappa confirmed that the elephant is roaming within the forest but has not damaged private farmland. The department is monitoring the situation closely and will take action if needed.
