In response to a recent leopard attack on a local farmer, the forest department has placed a cage near Devaragundi Sankada Kere, close to the Elathur Temple in Kinnigoli, to capture the animal. Two days prior, 58-year-old Ligory Pereira from Elathur Kalkare was injured by the leopard while cutting grass. Following this incident, residents urged the forest department to take action for their safety.
Moodbidri forest zone officer Nagesh Billava promptly responded by visiting the area and arranging for a cage to capture the leopard. Pereira is currently recovering from his injuries in the hospital.
According to social worker Prasad Elathur, leopard sightings have become more frequent around Elathur, leading to safety concerns among farmers and motorists, especially during nighttime.
