Bantwal – After a brief respite Thursday morning, Bantwal taluk was once again pounded by torrential rain in the afternoon, triggering multiple landslides, infrastructure damage, and displacement. Relief and rescue operations are actively underway, coordinated by the Revenue Department.
In Dasakodi (Baltill Grama Panchayat), a significant landslide buried part of the village road under mud and debris, prompting officials to cordon off the area to prevent accidents.
At Kelenjiguri in Shambhuru village, the heavy rains caused the collapse of a boundary wall at Ullas Factory and a nearby plantation owned by a resident named Dinesh.
In Amemar, Pudhu village, Abdul Khader’s home was completely damaged, forcing his family to evacuate. Kalayi area in Kavalmuduru saw the collapse of a canal embankment, threatening a commonly used footpath. Authorities have installed warning boards and arranged alternative routes for affected families.
In Katte locality, Kepu village, a canal-side retaining wall gave way, cracking the Neerkaje–Maniyarapade road. Fearing further damage, the Sadri road has been closed temporarily.
Elsewhere, Meramajalu village witnessed quick action by the Grama Panchayat to remove trees blocking the Abbettu Paraje road. However, a fresh landslide at Kariyangal’s Kalkutta area has cut off another vital route. Landslides in Amtadi’s Kupradi area caused soil runoff into plantations owned by Robert Minijas and Michael Menezes.
In Mandadi (Bantwal Kasba), walls of Sanjeev Guru’s house and toilet crumbled due to the rains. Thankfully, no injuries have been reported.
Main roads haven’t been spared—landslides have blocked key stretches in Shambhuru’s Kedukodi and Peruvayi’s Keduwar, including the Kuddapadavu–Pakalkunj route.
Officials have visited impacted areas and initiated urgent relief measures. The continuing rains highlight the region’s vulnerability and the pressing need for long-term infrastructure safeguards.
