The Mangaluru South police have arrested a 58-year-old man for allegedly assaulting a Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel on duty near the Mangaluru Central Railway Station on Thursday night.

The accused, identified as Shamsudheen of Cherukunnu in Kannur district, Kerala, was reportedly under the influence of alcohol when the incident took place around 10.15 pm near the station’s main portico.

According to police, RPF head constable T Prakash Babu noticed the man loitering on the platform without a ticket. When questioned and asked to leave, Shamsudheen allegedly hurled abuses and obstructed the constable from carrying out his duty. As the officer tried to escort him out, the accused resisted, threatened to kill him, and suddenly pulled out a blade-like weapon.

In the scuffle, the attacker swung at the constable, striking near his neck. Though Babu narrowly avoided a serious blow, a second attack left him injured on his left upper arm.

The injured officer was immediately rushed to Wenlock Government Hospital, where doctors confirmed the wounds were external and began treatment. Senior officials later visited him at the hospital to assess his condition.

A case has been registered under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including obstruction of duty, assault, and criminal intimidation. Police confirmed that further investigation is underway.
