Mangaluru: City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy has categorically ruled out the use of DJs at public gatherings, reaffirming that the law governing sound systems at events is strict and non-negotiable.
Response to association’s request
The statement follows demands from the Dakshina Kannada District Sound System and Decoration Owners’ Association, which requested permission to deploy DJs and sound systems depending on crowd size, venue, and event type.
Commissioner Reddy responded firmly: “The law is clear. Therefore, DJs will not be permitted at any public functions.”
Boycott threat addressed
The association had threatened a boycott, warning that they would withhold sound systems from public programmes if their request was denied. The Commissioner, however, remained unperturbed, stating, “I remain unfazed by any decision to boycott. These are their own tools and choices.”
He assured citizens that authorities would make alternative arrangements to ensure celebrations proceed smoothly, without causing inconvenience to the public, senior citizens, or students.
Clarification on exemptions
While some exemptions may be granted in exceptional cases, the Commissioner emphasised that “these will not set precedents or become new rules.” The announcement reinforces the city’s commitment to maintaining public order and noise regulations during events.
Conclusion
Mangaluru Police’s strict stance on DJ usage underscores the importance of adhering to existing laws and ensures that public functions remain safe, orderly, and considerate of the broader community.
