Mangaluru– The body of Keshav Shetty (64), a daily wage worker from Kumpala Ashraya Colony, was recovered from a stream in Uchila, Someshwara on Thursday afternoon, a day after he was swept away by floodwaters during heavy rain.

On the evening of July 16, Keshav was returning home via Pilaru road when he tried to cross an overflowing stormwater canal using a narrow culvert. Amid relentless rain and strong currents, he lost his footing and was carried away.

An extensive search was launched by locals and family members that same night, but only his umbrella was found in the canal. A missing person’s complaint was filed at the Ullal police station.

The next afternoon, his body was located downstream in a stream at Uchila. Officials from the Ullal tahsildar’s office, police, and fire department reached the spot, retrieved the body, and sent it for post-mortem.

Keshav is survived by his wife, son, and daughter. The incident underscores the dangers of navigating flooded areas, especially during the ongoing heavy monsoon in the region.
